The vast majority of the Sentence Navigator lessons contain a section at the start titled "My Dictionary". The words listed are for application on a special series of worksheets that form an ongoing Vocabulary Building exercise. Students write out their new words and then illustrate them, getting help from the teacher whenever necessary.
Listing and building vocabulary in this way is important for a couple of reasons. Firstly, students are illustrating the words according to the way they conceptually perceive them. Constant use of this activity will encourage the students to instinctively associate English words with pictures in their minds - not a corresponding word in L1. Secondly, students have a lot to gain in terms of confidence - building their own vocabulary and able to look back and see just how many words they have learned.
There are also color spaces above each word to allow for word-sorting and grammar application. Having chosen pre-set colors for nouns, verbs and adjectives, students can attempt to try and apply a simple kind of "linguistic function" to the new words they are learning.
