Suggested Activity - Starters

Write students' names on the board in a list. Pass out random cards from both animal sets (one for each student). Looking at their card, each student says where they are (zoo or farm) and what they can see there (e.g. "I am at the farm today - I can see a horse"). Students get a point each time they communicate the place and name of the animal.

Suggested Activity - Movers

Place students in groups of 3-4 and hand out random cards from each set until all the cards have been evenly distributed amongst the groups. Have each group draw two maps, depicting a zoo and a farm. The challenge is to place their animals in appropriate places on each map (for example, different kinds of enclosure for the zoo, different parts of a farm - like a barn, field or forest). When they have finished, have each group do a mini presentation with their maps, explaining where and why they have placed each animal.

Suggested Activity - Flyers

Place students in pairs or groups of three and hand out random cards from each set so that each group has 3-4 cards (whatever works according to your overall class size). Have the students line up their animals and make a list of what is similar and/or different about them. They could use criteria like physical appearance, behaviour, foods, habitats, etc. Based on their lists, each pair or group could then present their findings to the class.
