Once young learners are starting to move away from isolated phonics and sentence writing work, it is time to start encouraging them to engage in fuller, more creative written expression. The "Writing" subject is often a bugbear for many teachers of young learners, and the approach suggested here tries to incorporate planning, drafts, peer and teacher feedback, active language development and self correction, and re-writing to produce final drafts. Process and product are seen to carry equal weight in this approach.

This updated version of Writing Workshop is a complete 42 page textbook ready for download and use in the classroom. It features a cover page, title page, table of contents, a 6-step guide to successful writing, a key grammar guide divided into 3 stages (including examples of correct usage), 4 general writing task templates, 2 test templates (for mid and end of term testing), and a summary page at the back where grades can be recorded.
The writing pages themselves have been expanded to include a page for vocabulary and language brainstorming in addition to the topic/task and illustration page. Several images and new formats have been added to make the book more child-friendly.
